Beyond the Playground: Navigating Fairness in American Politics

Hey, Immigration Nation,

Hope you’re all feeling good today! I want to chat about something that’s not only about our personal experiences but also kinda mirrors what’s happening in the big wide world, especially in politics right here in America.

So, you know when you move to a new place, trying to learn the language, and fit in, but sometimes people aren’t so welcoming? There’s this thing that happens, not just in school or on the playground, but all over, even in politics. Sometimes, people who have the power to make changes or who should know better, act unfairly. And when they’re caught or called out, they suddenly act like they’re the ones who are being treated unfairly.

It’s a bit like in school when someone who’s being mean pretends to be the one who’s upset when a teacher notices. But in politics, it’s on a much bigger stage. Politicians, the people who lead our country, can sometimes be like those kids on the playground. When they do something not so great, and people start paying attention, they might try to switch the story around and make it seem like they’re the ones having a hard time.

This matters to us, not just because it’s interesting (or kinda frustrating), but because it’s about the kind of world we want to live in. It’s about being honest, standing up for what’s right, and not letting anyone, no matter how powerful, pretend they’re the victim to get out of trouble.

For us, as part of the big, diverse family that is America, seeing this happen can be a reminder. It’s a reminder to keep being ourselves, to stay strong in who we are and where we come from, and to not let anyone’s games make us feel like we don’t belong.

It’s also a call to pay attention, to understand what’s happening around us, and to use our voices and votes to help make things better. Because when we all stand together, support each other, and speak up for what’s fair and just, we can help create a community and a country where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Let’s keep the conversation going and keep looking out for each other. We’re all in this together, and together, we can make a difference.

Catch you later,

Andres “Immigrant” Mejer
