What is fear of persecution in a New Jersey Asylum petition?

Suffering or harm, including death threats, torture, and threats to your freedom.  To qualify for asylum the fear must be because of one or more of the following:

  1. Race;
  2. Religion;
  3. Nationality;
  4. Political opinion; or
  5. Membership in a particular social group.

Membership in a social group is more of a catch-all and is particularly difficult to define. Before filing for Asylum you should speak to a qualified immigration attorney.  Call 888-695-6169 to speak to our knowledgeable staff.
