The slap heard around the world

Like me, you probably weren’t watching the Oscars on March 27, 20222. I don’t blame you; it’s boring stuff. But you probably saw the video of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock? I admit I couldn’t help myself, and I watched it several times. They are calling it the slap heard around the world.

Has something like that ever happened to you? Maybe a loved one hit you? Domestic violence is too common, and violence in a relationship is too often to gain or maintain control. Has your partner ever hit you? Or threatened to beat you? If you are in an abusive relationship, there is help. If you are afraid of your partner, you should call the police. If you aren’t ready for that, at least call a domestic violence hotline and find out your options. 800-799-723 is available 24/7 in Spanish and English.

We have helped hundreds of immigrants get restraining orders or achieve legal status after being victims of abuse through a U-visa or VAWA process. Nobody should have to stay in an abusive relationship only to attain legal status. There is help, and there is hope.
