Review and Sign Petition

Objective:

To guide immigrants through the final step of reviewing and signing the petition package, ensuring all documents, forms, and questionnaires are accurate and complete before submission.

Step 1: Schedule the Review Appointment

  • Purpose: To set up a meeting with your Legal Assistant to review the completed petition package.
  • Actions:
    • Your Legal Assistant office will contact you to schedule a review appointment, which can be done via ZOOM, in-office, or through ZOHO Meetings.
    • Choose the meeting format that best suits your availability and comfort level.
    • Confirm the date and time of the meeting and ensure you have all necessary information to join the session.

Step 2: Prepare for the Review

  • Purpose: To get ready for the review of your petition package.
  • Actions:
    • Gather any personal identification documents you might need for the meeting (e.g., passport, ID).
    • Make sure you have a quiet, uninterrupted space if the meeting is virtual.
    • Prepare any questions or concerns you want to discuss with your Legal Assistant during the review.

Step 3: Participate in the Review Meeting

  • Purpose: To go over the entire petition package with your Legal Assistant.
  • Actions:
    • During the meeting, your Legal Assistant will guide you through each document, form, and questionnaire included in the petition package.
    • Carefully review each item, ensuring that all information is accurate and reflects your situation correctly.
    • If you notice any errors or have questions, discuss them with your Legal Assistant immediately so they can be corrected.

Step 4: Understand the Contents and Sign

  • Purpose: To acknowledge your understanding and agreement with the contents of the petition package.
  • Actions:
    • Once you are satisfied with the accuracy of the documents, your Legal Assistant will ask you to sign the necessary forms.
    • Make sure you understand what you are signing, including any legal implications.
    • If the meeting is virtual, your Legal Assistant will guide you through the process of signing documents electronically.
    • If in-person, sign the physical copies as directed.

Step 5: Final Review and Confirmation

  • Purpose: To ensure that everything is complete and ready for submission.
  • Actions:
    • After signing, your Legal Assistant will conduct a final check to confirm that all documents have been signed and are in order.
    • You may receive copies of the signed documents for your records.
    • Discuss the next steps with your Legal Assistant, including the timeline for submission and any follow-up actions.

Step 6: Payment of Filing Fees

  • Purpose: To pay the necessary filing fees associated with your petition.
  • Actions:
    • Your Legal Assistant will inform you of the exact amount required for the filing fees based on your case (e.g., family-based petition, employment-based petition, etc.).
    • Discuss the available payment methods (e.g., check, money order, credit card) and choose the one that works best for you.
    • If you are paying the fees directly, follow the instructions provided by your attorney to ensure that the payment is processed correctly.
    • Keep a receipt or confirmation of the payment for your records.

Step 7: Secure Copies for Your Records

  • Purpose: To keep a copy of the signed petition package for your future reference.
  • Actions:
    • Ensure you receive a copy of the entire petition package, including all signed documents, either electronically or in print.
    • Store these copies securely, as they may be needed for future reference or in case of any issues with the submission.
